If as a kid you never got the chance to see this movie you missed out BIG time. It's a fun, sometimes Dark film about magical inhabitants of a rainforest called FernGully that fight to save their home that is being threatened by logging and a polluting force of destruction called Hexxus.
When your a kid you don't notice the ALL STAR voice talent that most cartoons have. This film is pack with big name actors. The photo above is of BATTY who is voiced by non other then the great Robin Williams who also voiced the Genie in Aladdin. Here are just some of the other greats in this movie. Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Picture Show) Christian Slater (Pump up the Volume) Samantha Mathis who was also in Pump up the Volume and Broken Arrow along side Christian Slater. The great Stoner team CHEECH & CHONG also give live to characters in this classic children's tale. I think some of the best parts of this besides for Robin Williams is Rapper Tone Loc voicing Goanna.
If I had to compare this movie to any other I would have to choose AVATAR. The first time I seen it all I could think was that James Camron was ripping of Fern Gully and Pocahontas. There was a sequel Fern Gully 2: The Magical Rescue but it was a huge flop in my eyes.
The music in the Original is awesome BATTY RAP is Epic and so is TOXIC LOVE
If you have not seen it, See it. Also there are to other films around the same time that you should check out if you liked this one. The first is "We're Back" and the second is "Rock-a-doddle" both of those remind me of being a kid and singing along to all the songs.
